मध्यपूर्वमा चार दिनदेखि जारी भीषण सैन्य द्वन्द्वबिच अमेरिका र इरान अस्थायी रूपमा सैन्य कारबाही स्थगित गर्न सहमत भएका छन्। रोयटर्सका अनुसार यो आकस्मिक सहमतिले थप तनाव बढ्न नदिन महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका खेल्ने अपेक्षा राखिएको छ।

सहमतिअनुसार विश्वको सबैभन्दा महत्त्वपूर्ण तेल आपूर्ति मार्ग 'स्ट्रेट अफ हर्मुज' मा व्यापारिक जहाजको आवागमन पुनः सामान्य हुने भएको छ। जुन १७ मा भएको १४ बुँदे प्रारम्भिक शान्ति सम्झौता खतरामा परेपछि स्थिति अझ बिग्रन नदिन यो निर्णय लिइएको अमेरिकी अधिकारीहरूले बताएका छन्।

आइतबार बिहान इरानको इस्लामिक रिभोलुसनरी गार्ड कर्प्सले कुवेत र बहराइनमा रहेका अमेरिकी सैन्य अखडाहरूमा मिसाइल र ड्रोन प्रहार गरेको थियो। बहराइनमा एउटा आवासीय भवन क्षतिग्रस्त भयो भने कुवेतले दुई ब्यालिस्टिक मिसाइल हवाइमार्गमै ध्वस्त पार्यो। आक्रमणका क्रममा एक कतारी नागरिकको ज्यान गएको छ।

यसअघि राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्पले सामाजिक सञ्जालमार्फत कडा चेतावनी दिँदै सम्झौता नमाने इरानको अस्तित्व नै संकटमा पर्ने धम्की दिएका थिए। यसैबिच इजरायलले लेबनानमा हिज्बुल्लाहका भूमिगत ठेगानाहरूमा हवाई आक्रमण जारी राखेको छ भने इरानले लेबनानको लडाइँ नरोकिए अमेरिकासँगको सम्झौता टिक्न नसक्ने अडान राखेको छ।

मंगलबार कतारको राजधानी दोहामा उच्चस्तरीय वार्ता पुनः सुरु हुने तय भएको छ। यो वार्तालाई मध्यपूर्वमा झन् ठूलो र विनाशकारी युद्ध टार्ने अन्तिम कूटनीतिक प्रयासका रूपमा हेरिएको छ।

The United States and Iran have agreed to temporarily suspend military operations amid four days of intense conflict in the Middle East. According to Reuters, the sudden ceasefire agreement between the two sides is expected to prevent further escalation in the already volatile region.

As part of the agreement, commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most critical oil supply route, will resume normal operations. American officials said the emergency halt was necessitated after the 14-point preliminary peace deal struck on June 17 came under serious threat of collapse.

On Sunday morning, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched missile and drone strikes targeting US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. A residential building in Bahrain sustained damage while Kuwait successfully intercepted two ballistic missiles mid-air. One Qatari civilian was killed during the military operation.

Prior to the attacks, President Donald Trump had issued a stark warning on social media, threatening that Iran's very existence could be at risk if it failed to honour the agreement. Meanwhile, Israel continued airstrikes against Hezbollah's underground infrastructure in southern Lebanon, with Iran insisting that any deal with the US cannot survive while fighting in Lebanon continues.

High-level talks are set to resume in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday. The negotiations are being widely viewed as the last serious diplomatic effort to prevent a larger and potentially catastrophic war in the Middle East.
