नेपाली बजारमा डलरको मूल्यले फेरि नयाँ रेकर्ड कायम गरेको छ। नेपाल राष्ट्र बैंकले आइतबारका लागि अमेरिकी डलरको खरिद मूल्य १४०.९३ रुपियाँ र बिक्री मूल्य १४१.५३ रुपियाँ तोकेको छ, जुन हालसम्मकै उच्च दर हो।
यसअघि भदौ १४ गते डलरको खरिद मूल्य १४०.८२ र बिक्री मूल्य १४१.४२ रुपियाँ पुगेको थियो। त्यसै आधारमा एक साताभित्रै नयाँ रेकर्ड बनेको हो। डलरको मूल्य बढ्नु भनेको नेपाली रुपियाँ कमजोर हुनु पनि हो।
नेपालमा डलर दर भारतीय मुद्रासँग पेग गरिएको छ। भारतमा हुने मूल्य परिवर्तनकै आधारमा नेपालमा समेत डलर दर तोकिन्छ। पछिल्लो समय भारतमा अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्पले भारतबाट हुने वस्तु आयातमा ५० प्रतिशत कर लगाएका कारण व्यापारमा अन्योल बढेको छ। त्यसपछि भारतमा विदेशी लगानी घटेको र डलरको माग उच्च भएको देखिन्छ। यही कारण नेपालमा पनि यसको असर परिरहेको छ।
डॉलर मूल्य वृद्धिले नेपाललाई फाइदा र बेफाइदा दुवै ल्याउने अर्थविद्हरू बताउँछन्। रेमिट्यान्स, विदेशी पर्यटक र निर्यातबाट हुने आम्दानी बढ्ने भए पनि आयात, विदेशी ऋण तथा बैदेशिक भुक्तानी भने अझ महँगो हुनेछ। नेपालले वार्षिक १५ खर्ब भन्दा बढीको वस्तु आयात गर्ने भएकाले डलर महँगो हुँदा आयात लागत बढ्ने र मूल्यवृद्धि उच्च हुने सम्भावना बढेको छ।
The value of the US dollar has once again reached a new record high in the Nepali market. Nepal Rastra Bank has fixed the buying rate at Rs. 140.93 and the selling rate at Rs. 141.53 for Sunday, the highest level so far.
Earlier, on Bhadra 14, the buying rate had reached Rs. 140.82 and the selling rate Rs. 141.42, setting a record then. Within a week, the dollar has now touched a fresh high. A rising dollar essentially means the Nepali rupee is weakening.
Nepal’s currency is pegged to the Indian rupee, so fluctuations in India directly impact Nepal. Recently, US President Donald Trump imposed a 50% tariff on goods imported from India, starting August 27. This created uncertainty in India’s trade with the US, leading to a withdrawal of foreign investments and higher demand for dollars in India. As a result, the dollar has appreciated in Nepal as well, since Nepal determines its exchange rate based on India’s evening rates.
Economists say the rising dollar brings both advantages and disadvantages for Nepal. On the positive side, remittance inflows, foreign tourism income, and export earnings will increase, as they are received in dollars. However, imports, foreign debt repayments, and other external payments will become more expensive. With Nepal importing goods worth over Rs. 1.5 trillion annually, a stronger dollar will raise import costs and likely fuel inflation in the domestic market.
