US Strikes Iran Again Amid Peace Talks — Tensions Escalate in Hormuz Region
Washington/Tehran. While diplomatic efforts to end the conflict were still underway, the United States military launched fresh strikes against Iran. The attack, carried out even as both sides remained engaged in ceasefire negotiations, has sharply deepened tensions across the Middle East.
According to the US Central Command, the strikes targeted missile launch sites in southern Iran and Iranian vessels that were allegedly attempting to lay mines near the Strait of Hormuz. Washington has defended the action as a "defensive strike" aimed at protecting the lives of American military personnel in the region.
Following the attack, local media reported a series of explosions in Iran's Bandar Abbas area. Iran swiftly activated its air defense systems across the region in response.
This is not the first such incident. Earlier this month, the US had already carried out strikes against Iran-linked military infrastructure, accusing Iranian-backed forces of attacking American warships using missiles, drones, and small boats. The pattern suggests that despite a ceasefire being in place, hostilities between the two sides have never truly stopped.
The Strait of Hormuz — through which nearly 20 percent of the world's traded oil passes — has become the center of this escalating standoff. With military activity intensifying in one of the world's most strategically critical waterways, the international community is growing increasingly alarmed.
Whether the ongoing peace talks can survive yet another military confrontation remains the defining question — and right now, the answer looks uncertain.
