Understanding Market Trends
Learn how to identify, analyze, and trade with major market trends.
What Is a Trend?
A trend represents the general direction in which a market or asset's price is moving over time.
Simple Analogy: The River
Imagine a river flowing downhill. Even if there are small splashes (pullbacks) going up, the main water flow (trend) is still going down. In trading, we always want to swim with the current, not against it.
Trading Wisdom
"Follow the trend, but always have an exit plan."
Types of Trends
Bullish Market (Uptrend)
Market is optimistic, prices are rising.
The Staircase Analogy
Think of climbing a staircase. You step up (Higher High), then rest a bit on the landing (Higher Low), then step up again. As long as you don't fall below the previous landing, you are going up.
Anatomy of Uptrend
Higher Highs (HH)
Each peak surpasses the previous peak
Higher Lows (HL)
Each pullback stays above previous low
How to Identify a Trend
Moving Averages
Use 20, 50, 200 MA to confirm direction
Trendlines

Price Action

Volume
Increasing volume confirms trend
