China Tourist Visa for Nepali Citizens — Complete 2025 Application Guide

In 2025, China continues to be one of the most sought-after travel destinations for Nepali citizens, attracting thousands each year for tourism, education, medical treatment, and business purposes. However, Nepali passport holders must obtain a China Tourist Visa (L Visa) before entering the country, as visa-on-arrival and visa-free entry are not available for Nepal. The process has become more organized and accessible after the Chinese Embassy in Nepalintroduced its official online visa application system, managed by the Chinese Visa Application Service Center at Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu.
To apply for a China Tourist Visa, travelers are required to submit a complete set of documents. This includes a valid passport with at least six months of validity, a filled and signed visa application form, recent color photograph with a white background, confirmed hotel bookings, flight reservations, bank statements showing sufficient balance, and, if applicable, an invitation letter from a friend or relative in China. Additional documents such as a letter of employment or student verification and travel insurance are also recommended. In 2025, the Chinese government has temporarily waived fingerprint collection until December 31, 2025, which has simplified the application process significantly.
The visa processing period generally ranges from four to seven working days, and applicants can choose between normal or express services depending on urgency. A single-entry visa is valid for three months and allows a stay of up to 30 days per visit. For travelers planning to enter Tibet or travel through the Kathmandu–Lhasa route, a Group Visa and Tibet Travel Permit are required. These special permits must be arranged through an authorized travel agency that coordinates with the Tibet Tourism Bureau.
Applicants are strongly advised to apply for the visa at least two weeks before departure. Incomplete forms or mismatched documents are common reasons for delay or rejection. Moreover, since the Chinese Embassy and Visa Center are closed during both Nepali and Chinese public holidays, early preparation is key. Before traveling, applicants should also ensure their travel insurance, flight details, and health documentation are in order.
