China Tourist Visa for Nepali Passport Holders – How to Apply Online (2025)

For Nepali citizens planning to visit China in 2025 for tourism, leisure, or family visits, a tourist visa (Type L) is mandatory because Nepal is not listed under China’s visa-free entry program. Fortunately, the entire process can now be started online through the official China Online Visa Application (COVA) portal and completed by visiting the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in Kathmandu. This convenient digital system makes it much easier for Nepali travelers to apply, track, and receive their visa efficiently.

The China Tourist Visa (L Type) is suitable for short-term travel, sightseeing, cultural exploration, or visiting relatives and friends. The visa generally allows a stay of up to 30 days per entry, with single or multiple-entry options depending on your itinerary and approval.

Application Steps:
The process begins at the COVA portal (https://cova.mfa.gov.cn) where applicants must complete the online visa form accurately. After submitting the digital form, print the completed version and sign it. Next, you must book an appointment at the CVASC Kathmandu office (1st Floor, Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu). During the appointment, applicants submit all printed documents, biometric data (fingerprints), and visa fees.

Required Documents:

  • A valid Nepali passport with at least six months’ validity and two blank pages.

  • A recent passport-size color photograph (white background, no editing).

  • COVA online application form (completed, printed, and signed).

  • Round-trip flight tickets and hotel booking confirmations or an invitation letter from a host in China.

  • Bank statement (last 3–6 months) showing sufficient funds for travel expenses.

  • Cover letter describing your travel purpose and duration.

  • If previously issued a Chinese visa, include a copy of the old visa.

Visa Fee and Processing Time:
The standard tourist visa fee for Nepali applicants is around NPR 6,000–7,000, payable at the CVASC counter. Processing typically takes 2 to 4 working days after submission. Expedited services may be available for urgent cases with extra charges.

Validity and Stay:
A standard China tourist visa is valid for 3 months from the issue date, allowing up to 30 days of stay per visit. Multi-entry visas may be granted to frequent travelers or those with a solid travel history.

Key Tips for a Successful Application:

  • Ensure all information on your online form matches your passport and travel documents.

  • Prepare clear scanned copies — unclear or mismatched details can delay approval.

  • Apply at least 2–3 weeks before travel to avoid last-minute stress.

  • Avoid submitting fake documents; the Chinese Embassy may verify all information.

  • Always carry printed copies of your visa, hotel bookings, and return flight ticket while traveling.
