Do Nepali Passport Holders Need a Visa for Hong Kong Visit?

Nepali passport holders are required to obtain a visa to visit Hong Kong. The visa process can be done online, by post, or via the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Applicants must submit completed forms, passport, photograph, itinerary, financial documents, and pay a fee of about HKD 230 (NPR 4,000). The process takes 4–6 weeks, and approved applicants receive a Visa/Entry Permit Label for their passport. For full guidance and submission support, travelers can contact Yatra For Fun Pvt. Do Nepali Passport Holders Need a Visa for Hong Kong Visit?

Nepali citizens must obtain a visa or entry permit prior to traveling to Hong Kong, as Nepal is not included among the 170 visa-exempt countries and territories recognized by the Hong Kong Immigration Department. This means that every Nepali traveler, whether visiting for tourism, business, family reunion, or transit exceeding a short duration, is required to apply for a Visit Visa/Entry Permit before departure. The visa process is managed by the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and applications can be filed in three different ways — online, by post, or through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, which handles Hong Kong visa matters for Nepali nationals.

Applicants must complete the official application forms ID1003A (for the traveler) and ID1003B (for the local sponsor, if applicable). Along with these forms, they must submit a valid passport copy (with at least six months validity), a recent photograph, a cover letter mentioning the purpose and duration of the visit, and a travel itinerary that includes round-trip flight bookings and hotel reservations. Furthermore, financial evidence such as bank statements, salary slips, or income certificates must be provided to demonstrate the applicant’s ability to finance the trip. Those visiting friends or relatives in Hong Kong should include an invitation letter and a copy of the sponsor’s Hong Kong ID or passport.

The visa fee for a Hong Kong visit visa is around HKD 230 (approximately NPR 4,000) per applicant. The fee must be paid via bank draft or cashier’s order payable to “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.” Applicants submitting through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu may pay the equivalent amount in Nepali rupees. The processing time usually takes 4 to 6 weeks, depending on verification and workload, though some cases may take longer. Once the visa is approved, the Immigration Department issues a Visa/Entry Permit Label, which must be affixed to the applicant’s passport before travel. During travel, visitors must carry this visa label along with their passport, return ticket, and hotel confirmation to present at immigration checkpoints.

Holders of a Hong Kong visit visa are allowed to stay temporarily for the approved duration but cannot work, study, or engage in any business activities. Those who need to extend their stay must apply before their current limit of stay expires. Overstaying in Hong Kong is considered a serious immigration violation and may affect future visa approvals.

For Nepali applicants who wish to ensure accuracy and avoid delays, Yatra For Fun Pvt. Ltd., Koteshwor (Contact: 9802348957) provides expert assistance in completing visa forms, organizing required documents, preparing financial proofs, coordinating with sponsors, and submitting the application through proper channels. The agency helps travelers complete the process confidently and efficiently, following all the official guidelines of the Hong Kong Immigration Department.
