Kathmandu — The government will carry out a systemic restructuring of the entire education ecosystem, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle announced through the budget.
Wagle said investment in school education will be increased to expand innovation- and skill-focused education, based on national school mapping and infrastructure audits, teacher capacity testing, and assessments of AI and ed-tech readiness.
The Finance Minister said the government has adopted a policy of transforming the education system into a "school-centric system," enhancing educational quality, and accepting parental support in infrastructure construction. School management committees will be made a means of ensuring quality education, while a "Clean Toilet Campaign" will be run in all educational institutions. Higher education will be restructured as a centre for research, innovation, knowledge production, and national capacity building.
Wagle said the quotas currently set in various higher-education disciplines — including medicine, nursing, and information technology — will be reviewed within the current fiscal year and significantly increased.
