Government to Make Social Security System More Equitable and Targeted

Kathmandu — The government will make the social security system more equitable and targeted, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle announced through the budget.

Wagle said a national campaign — "Let those who can, give it up; let us add those who cannot" — will be run to encourage economically capable citizens to voluntarily forgo their social security allowance. Such contributions will be honoured as an example of intergenerational justice and national solidarity, he said.

The Finance Minister said the child nutrition allowance provided to Dalit children across the country has been doubled to Rs 1,000 per month.

He added that the nutrition allowance received by children in 25 districts — mainly in Madhesh, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, which have high poverty and lag behind on the Human Development Index — has been continued.
