Hong Kong Tourist Visa for Nepali Citizens — Documents, Fees & Processing Time

For Nepali passport holders, obtaining a Hong Kong tourist visa is a mandatory requirement, as Nepal is not among the 170 countries granted visa-free access to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The visa is officially called a Visit Visa/Entry Permit and must be approved by the Hong Kong Immigration Department before travel. Nepali applicants can apply online, by post, or through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, which handles visa matters for Hong Kong visitors from Nepal.

To apply, travelers must submit properly filled Application Forms ID1003A (applicant) and ID1003B (sponsor, if applicable) along with required supporting documents. These include a valid passport (with at least six months validity), a recent passport-sized photograph, a cover letter explaining the purpose and duration of the trip, and a detailed travel itinerary showing round-trip flight bookings and hotel reservations. Financial evidence such as bank statements, salary slips, or income certificates is crucial to prove the applicant’s financial stability. If a local sponsor exists, they must provide a copy of their Hong Kong ID card or passport along with proof of relationship or invitation letter. Applicants who are self-employed or business owners should also include a business registration certificate or tax documents to show ties to Nepal.

The visa fee for Hong Kong tourists is approximately HKD 230 (around NPR 4,000) per person, payable via bank draft or cashier’s order to “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.” Applicants submitting through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu can pay the equivalent in Nepali currency. In addition, if handled through a travel agency, a small service charge may apply for documentation and courier support.

The processing time for a Hong Kong tourist visa is typically 4 to 6 weeks, although complex cases requiring additional verification may take up to 8 weeks. Once approved, applicants receive a Visa/Entry Permit Label, which must be pasted into the passport before traveling. This label acts as the official visa document and must be presented upon arrival at Hong Kong immigration. Applicants are strongly advised to apply at least one month in advance to avoid last-minute complications.

Holders of a Hong Kong tourist visa are permitted to stay temporarily for leisure or family visits but are not allowed to work, study, or conduct business. Extensions of stay are granted only under exceptional circumstances, and overstaying may lead to penalties or re-entry restrictions. All submitted documents must be either in English or accompanied by official English translations to avoid delays.

For smooth visa handling, Yatra For Fun Pvt. Ltd. (Koteshwor, Nepal) provides end-to-end assistance including document preparation, financial proof verification, sponsor coordination, and embassy submissions. Their experienced team ensures applications meet all requirements of the Hong Kong Immigration Department and helps track the progress until final approval.
