Hong Kong Transit Visa for Nepalese Travellers — All You Need to Know

Nepali citizens do not need a visa if they remain in the Hong Kong airport’s international zone with a confirmed onward flight. But if they must exit the airport or stay overnight, they must obtain a Transit Visa, costing HKD 230 (around NPR 4,000). Required documents include forms, passport, flight proof, hotel booking, financial statements, and a cover letter. Processing time is 4–6 weeks, and professional help is available from Yatra For Fun Pvt. Ltd., Koteshwor (9802348957) for document and embassy coordination.

Hong Kong Transit Visa for Nepalese Travellers — All You Need to Know

For Nepali passport holders, traveling through Hong Kong requires special attention to transit visa regulations. Generally, if a traveler remains within the international transit area of Hong Kong International Airport and has a confirmed onward flight ticket, no visa is required. However, if a traveler needs to collect luggage, change terminals, stay overnight, or pass through immigration, then a Hong Kong Transit Visa or Entry Permit becomes mandatory. This requirement applies to all Nepali citizens, regardless of whether they are traveling for tourism, work, or study in another country.

The Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) handles all transit visa applications. Nepali applicants can apply online, by post, or through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, which processes Hong Kong visa applications on behalf of HKSAR. Applicants must fill out Forms ID1003A (for the traveler) and ID1003B (for the sponsor, if applicable) and attach required documents such as a valid passport copy (minimum six months validity), recent passport-size photograph, confirmed onward flight booking, destination country visa (if applicable), and hotel booking if they intend to stay overnight. Additionally, proof of financial means (like bank statements, salary slips, or income certificates) and a cover letter stating the reason for transit must be provided.

All original and signed documents should be sent by post to:
Receipt and Despatch Unit, Ground Floor, Administration Tower, Immigration Headquarters, 61 Po Yap Road, Tseung Kwan O, New Territories, Hong Kong,
or submitted through the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Applicants can fax copies to (852) 2824 1133 initially to speed up processing, but original forms and photos must follow by air mail.

The transit visa fee is HKD 230 (approximately NPR 4,000) per person, payable via bank draft or cashier’s orderaddressed to “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.” When applying through the Chinese Embassy, equivalent payment in Nepali currency is accepted. The processing time is typically 4 to 6 weeks, though more complex applications may take longer. Upon approval, a Visa/Entry Permit Label will be issued, which must be affixed to the applicant’s passport before travel. Travelers should keep this label and supporting documents ready for presentation at immigration checkpoints.

A Hong Kong Transit Visa allows Nepali travelers to enter and stay temporarily during transit to another destination but does not permit employment, study, or business activities. Overstaying or misusing the visa can lead to severe immigration penalties and future entry bans.

To simplify this process, Yatra For Fun Pvt. Ltd., Koteshwor (Contact: 9802348957) offers complete transit visa assistance for Nepali citizens, including document verification, flight confirmation, embassy coordination, and progress tracking. Their support ensures that travelers meet all formalities smoothly and avoid unnecessary delays during international transit.
