Hong Kong Visa-Free Entry List 2025 — Is Nepal Included?

As of 2025, Hong Kong continues to offer visa-free entry for nationals from around 170 countries and territories, allowing travelers to visit for durations ranging from 7 days to 180 days, depending on their nationality. This arrangement is known as Hong Kong’s “Visa Waiver Scheme” or Visa-Free Access Policy, managed by the Hong Kong Immigration Department. It enables travelers from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Canada, Singapore, and most EU nations to enter Hong Kong without obtaining a visa beforehand.
However, Nepal is not included in Hong Kong’s visa-free entry list for 2025. This means Nepali passport holders must obtain a visa or entry permit before traveling to Hong Kong, regardless of whether the visit is for tourism, business, study, or transit (if they plan to leave the airport). The Hong Kong Immigration Department clearly specifies that Nepal falls under the category of visa-required nationalities, alongside several other South Asian countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
The visa requirement applies even for short-term visits, meaning that Nepalese citizens cannot enter Hong Kong without prior approval from the Immigration Department. Travelers must apply through the Hong Kong Visit Visa or Entry Permit system, which can be submitted online or through Chinese Embassies, Consulates, or Visa Application Service Centers. Applicants need to fill out Form ID 1003A (for the applicant) and Form ID 1003B (if a local sponsor is involved), attach necessary documents such as a valid passport, flight ticket, hotel booking, financial proof, and submit the original signed forms to the Immigration Department in Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong.
The processing time for Nepalese visa applications typically ranges from 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the type of visa and accuracy of documents. Once approved, travelers receive an eVisa (electronic visa), which can be downloaded and printed before traveling.
The visa-free policy of Hong Kong is designed to facilitate tourism and short business exchanges from select nations with stable travel records and low overstay risk. However, due to immigration control considerations, Nepal remains excluded from the list. Nepali citizens planning to travel to Hong Kong for any reason — including transit outside the airport — are therefore strongly advised to obtain a proper visa beforehand to avoid boarding or entry issues.
