Hong Kong Visa Sponsor Requirements for Nepali Applicants – Explained

Hong Kong Visa Sponsor Requirements for Nepali Applicants – Explained

When Nepali citizens apply for a Hong Kong Visit or Transit Visa, having a local sponsor in Hong Kong can significantly support the application process. While sponsorship is not always mandatory, it helps the Immigration Department of Hong Kong (ImmD) verify the applicant’s background, purpose of travel, and accommodation arrangements — all key elements of visa evaluation. According to official guidelines, a sponsor can be either a personor a company/organization legally based in Hong Kong.

If the sponsor is an individual, the Immigration Department requires that person to:

  1. Be at least 18 years old,

  2. Be a bona fide resident of Hong Kong (holding a Hong Kong Identity Card or valid residence status), and

  3. Be acquainted with the applicant, meaning they personally know or have a genuine relationship with the visitor.

If the sponsor is a company or organization, it must submit a copy of its Business Registration Certificate, official company stamp (chop), and a letter confirming the purpose of sponsorship — for example, hosting a meeting, training, or short visit. In both cases, the sponsor must complete the Form ID 1003B (Application for Entry for Visit/Transit – Sponsor), sign it, and attach the supporting identification documents.

The role of a sponsor is not to financially guarantee the applicant but to assist the Immigration Department in confirming the authenticity of the visit, purpose of stay, and residence details. The sponsor’s details are used to verify the credibility of the application. This is especially beneficial for Nepali applicants who may not have extensive travel histories or strong bank statements — a sponsor adds local trust to the application.

All sponsor-related documents must be scanned and uploaded in JPEG, PDF, PNG, GIF, or TIF format, with file size under 5 MB when applying through the ImmD Online Application Portal. The sponsor’s identity card copy (for individuals) or business registration (for companies) is required along with the completed Form ID 1003B.

However, it is important to note that having a sponsor does not guarantee visa approval. The Hong Kong Immigration Department evaluates every case on its individual merits. Even with a sponsor, the applicant must provide their own valid passport, travel history, financial proof, confirmed flight tickets, and hotel bookings. Processing usually takes four weeks from the date of complete document submission.

Nepal Emphasizes the Importance of Regional Cooperation in a Changing Global Landscape In the context of an increasingly complex and uncertain global environment, Nepal has underscored the necessity of regional cooperation not only as a requirement but as an absolute imperative. This statement was made by the Foreign Secretary and Chairperson of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Standing Committee, Amrit Bahadur Rai, during the 62nd meeting of the SAARC Program Committee. Regional Cooperation as a Bridge Between National and Global Efforts Rai highlighted that amid today’s global challenges, regional cooperation is crucial for bridging the gap between national efforts and international processes. As nations face increasingly interconnected issues such as economic instability, climate change, and geopolitical tensions, strengthening regional collaboration within South Asia becomes essential. Rai emphasized that regional cooperation serves as a critical conduit through which countries can navigate and address common challenges effectively. He stated, "In the face of global uncertainties, regional cooperation has become not just a necessity but an obligation." This reflects Nepal's broader geopolitical strategy of fostering stronger regional ties to ensure mutual benefits and stability within South Asia. Achievements of SAARC and the Need for Action In his address, SAARC Secretary-General, Golam Sarwar, reminded the gathering of the significant achievements SAARC has made over the past four decades. He called for a shift from aspirations to actionable outcomes, stressing that the lofty goals of regional cooperation must be transformed into tangible results. Sarwar's comments emphasize the importance of not only celebrating the milestones SAARC has reached but also ensuring that these accomplishments translate into real-world, impactful initiatives.
