How to Apply for China Q1/Q2 Visa from Nepal (Family Reunion)

For Nepali citizens who want to reunite with their family members or relatives living in China, the China Q1 and Q2 Family Reunion Visas are the official categories to apply for. The Q1 Visa is intended for long-term family staysexceeding 180 days, while the Q2 Visa is for short visits under 180 days. These visas are specifically designed for family reunification with Chinese citizens or permanent residents, such as spouses, children, parents, or grandparents. The application process is conducted through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC)located at Rising Mall, Kamaladi, Kathmandu, under the guidance of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal.

To apply for the China Q1 or Q2 visa, applicants must first obtain an official invitation letter from their family member in China. The invitation must clearly state the applicant’s full name, passport number, relationship, purpose of visit, intended duration, and the inviter’s contact details. The inviter should attach a copy of their Chinese ID card (both sides) if they are a citizen or a residence permit if they are a foreign national legally residing in China. Along with the invitation letter, applicants must submit a valid passport with at least six months of validity, a passport-size photograph (48mm × 33mm, white background), proof of relationship such as a marriage or birth certificate, bank statements for the last 3–6 months, and flight and hotel booking confirmations.

Applicants must fill out the online visa form on visaforchina.cn, print it, sign it, and then book an appointment to submit documents at the CVASC office. Once submitted, the visa officers review the application and supporting documents carefully. The visa fee depends on the type of entry — single-entry visas cost around NPR 12,000–14,000, while double-entry visas range from NPR 16,000–18,000. The processing time usually takes 4 to 7 working days, though express service can be completed within 2–3 days for an additional charge. Once the visa is approved, the applicant can collect the passport from CVASC. Those holding a Q1 Visa must apply for a Temporary Residence Permit at the Public Security Bureau (PSB) within 30 days of arriving in China to legally reside long-term.
