Japan Tourist Visa Interview Questions & Answers for Nepalese

Attending a Japan tourist visa interview can feel stressful for many Nepali travelers, but being well-prepared and confident can make the process smooth. Although most visa applications for Japan from Nepal are handled through VFS Global Kathmandu, the Embassy of Japan may call applicants for an interview if further clarification or verification is required. The purpose of this interview is not to reject you but to confirm the authenticity of your documents, your travel intentions, and your ties to Nepal.

During the interview, officers generally ask simple, direct questions to verify whether you are a genuine tourist. The most common question is about your purpose of visit — applicants should clearly state that they are visiting Japan for tourism, leisure, or cultural exploration, not for work or study. You may also be asked about the duration of your stay, and your answer should match your flight and hotel bookings (for example, “I plan to stay for 7 days, from May 10 to May 17”). When asked why you chose Japan, highlight cultural reasons like Japan’s heritage, cherry blossoms, advanced technology, or peaceful environment.

Another major focus of the interview is your financial stability. The officer may ask who is sponsoring your trip. If you are self-sponsoring, present your recent bank statements, income certificate, and tax documents. If a family member is sponsoring you, mention their name, relation, and show their financial proofs. Applicants often make mistakes by giving unclear or exaggerated answers — honesty is the key.

The interviewer may also inquire about your employment or business in Nepal. You should confidently mention your job title, company name, and monthly salary or business type. If you own property, savings, or other assets in Nepal, mention them to show strong ties to your home country. Common questions also include whether you have traveled abroad before, which helps prove your travel discipline.

Another crucial question is about your plan after returning to Nepal. You should confidently explain that you will return to your job, business, or family responsibilities. This reassures the Embassy that you have no intention of overstaying in Japan. If you are visiting someone in Japan, be transparent about their relationship with you and provide the invitation letter if required.

To prepare well, practice answers in short, polite sentences. Dress neatly, arrive early, and carry all original documents like passport, financial proof, flight and hotel booking, and employment certificate. Avoid memorizing robotic answers — speak naturally, clearly, and confidently.
