Spain Tourist Visa for Nepali Citizens 2026: Schengen Update

Spain is one of the most attractive European destinations for Nepali travelers, known for its sunny beaches, historic cities, rich culture, vibrant festivals, and world-famous cuisine. In 2026, Nepalese passport holders planning to visit Spain for tourism, leisure, or visiting family and friends must apply for a Schengen Tourist / Visit Visa (Type C) in advance. Spain does not provide visa-free or visa-on-arrival access for Nepali citizens, and all applications are assessed under the updated Schengen Visa Code.

A Spain tourist visa allows Nepali travelers to stay up to 90 days within a 180-day period in Spain and other Schengen countries. The visa is strictly for short-term travel such as sightseeing, holidays, or personal visits and does not permit employment or long-term residence.

Schengen Visa System for Spain (2026)

Under the 2026 Schengen update, Spain continues to process visa applications through the authorized Visa Application Centre (VAC) representing Spanish authorities in Nepal. Applicants are encouraged to complete the Schengen visa application form digitally, organize documents carefully, book appointments online, and submit the application in personat the VAC, where biometric data is collected.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for a Spain tourist visa, Nepali applicants must clearly demonstrate that their travel is temporary and for tourism or personal purposes only. Applicants must show sufficient financial resources to cover travel and stay, valid travel insurance, and strong ties to Nepal—such as employment, business ownership, family responsibilities, property ownership, or academic enrollment—to prove their intention to return after the visit.

Documentation Requirements

A valid passport is mandatory and should generally be valid for at least six months beyond the intended return date, with at least two blank pages. Applicants must submit photocopies of the passport bio-data page and previous visas if available.

Applicants must submit a fully completed and signed Schengen visa application form along with recent passport-size photographs that meet Schengen specifications, including a plain background and clear facial visibility.

A clear travel itinerary is required, including round-trip flight reservations, hotel bookings covering the entire stay in Spain, and a day-by-day travel plan. All travel details must be consistent across documents.

Proof of financial capacity is essential and may include recent bank statements (typically last 3–6 months), salary slips, income certificates, savings or fixed deposit records, or sponsorship documents if the trip is funded by another person.

A mandatory requirement is travel medical insurance with minimum coverage of €30,000, valid for all Schengen countries and for the entire duration of the stay.

Applicants must also submit evidence of strong ties to Nepal, such as employment letters, business registration documents, property ownership papers, family records, or academic documents. These are critical to demonstrate intent to return.

If visiting family or friends in Spain, an invitation letter along with proof of relationship and the host’s legal residence status may be required. Depending on the applicant’s profile, Spanish authorities may request additional documents.

Biometrics & Processing

Most Nepali applicants must provide biometric data (fingerprints and photograph) at the VAC appointment. If biometrics were previously submitted for a Schengen visa and are still valid, they may be reused according to Schengen regulations.

Standard processing time is usually around 15 calendar days, but under the 2026 Schengen update it may extend to 30–60 days if additional verification is required or during peak travel seasons. Applicants are strongly advised to apply 8–12 weeks before their intended travel date.

Entry & Compliance

Even with an approved visa, final entry into Spain is decided by border control authorities. Travelers may be asked to present accommodation proof, return tickets, travel insurance, and evidence of sufficient funds. Visitors must strictly comply with the 90/180-day rule and must not work or overstay.
