Thailand Tourist Visa Photo & Financial Proof Requirements for Nepalis

For Nepali citizens planning to visit Thailand in 2025, applying for a Tourist Visa (Type TR) requires attention to every detail, especially when it comes to passport photographs and financial proof. These two elements are among the most critical factors determining whether your visa application will be approved or delayed by the Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu or VFS Global Nepal. Since May 2025, the Thai authorities have reintroduced and enforced strict financial proof and photo requirements to ensure applicants meet international travel standards and demonstrate genuine travel intent.

Photo Requirements

Your visa photo is not just a formality — it represents your identity verification. The Royal Thai Embassy requires that each applicant submit two to three recent passport-sized color photos, taken within the last three to six months. The required size is 3.5 × 4.5 cm, with a plain white background and no patterns or shadows. The photo must be of high clarity, showing your full face with a neutral expression. Your eyes should be open, mouth closed, and you should look straight into the camera.

Avoid wearing hats, caps, sunglasses, or any facial covering unless it is for religious or medical reasons. Photos taken in casual attire are acceptable, but if you wear white for religious purposes, you may use a light blue background for better contrast. The embassy strictly prohibits digitally altered, filtered, or manipulated photos. Your photo should represent your natural appearance as it will be matched with your passport at the time of immigration entry.

The photo should cover 70–80% of your face area, including the top of the head and shoulders, and must be printed on good-quality matte or glossy paper. Failing to meet these standards can lead to rejection or resubmission requests. For best results, it is recommended that you visit a professional photo studio familiar with visa photo requirements for Thailand and other international destinations.

Financial Proof Requirements

From May 2025, the Thai Government has officially reinstated the financial proof requirement for all tourist visa applicants, including those from Nepal. The purpose of this rule is to ensure that travelers possess sufficient financial means to cover their travel expenses, accommodation, and return journey during their stay in Thailand.

According to the Royal Thai Embassy, Kathmandu, applicants must show a minimum balance of THB 20,000 per person or THB 40,000 per family, equivalent to approximately NPR 80,000 and NPR 160,000, respectively. This financial proof must be shown through bank statements covering the last six months. The statements should show regular transactions, a steady balance, and the applicant’s name clearly printed. A sudden large deposit made shortly before applying may raise suspicions and could result in rejection.

If another person (like a family member, spouse, or employer) is sponsoring your trip, a sponsorship letter must be attached along with their bank statement, identification proof, and relationship verification document. All documents should be authentic, verifiable, and stamped by the issuing bank. Applicants with weak financial proof or missing records are at risk of delays or denials. The purpose of this requirement is not only to ensure the applicant’s financial stability but also to maintain Thailand’s immigration standards for responsible travelers.

Additional Reminders

Before submitting your application, carefully review all documents — including your passport (valid for at least 6 months), visa application form, photos, bank statement, hotel booking, and flight ticket. Also, remember to fill out the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours before departure, as this form has replaced the old TM6 paper arrival card. The TDAC ensures faster immigration clearance upon arrival.
