Tourist Visa for Japan from Nepal – Eligibility, Documents, and Fees

Japan is one of the most popular destinations for Nepali travelers, offering a unique blend of culture, technology, and natural beauty. For Nepali passport holders planning to visit Japan in 2025, obtaining a Tourist Visa (Temporary Visitor Visa) is a mandatory step before traveling. This visa allows travelers to enter Japan for purposes such as sightseeing, cultural experiences, visiting friends or family, or short leisure stays. The process is managed either through the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu or the VFS Global Japan Visa Application Centre.

Eligibility:
To qualify for a Japanese tourist visa, applicants must hold a valid Nepali passport and provide proof that they have sufficient financial resources to support their trip. The purpose of the visit should be strictly for tourism and not for employment or long-term study. Applicants must also demonstrate strong ties to Nepal — such as employment, family, or education — to assure that they will return after their visit. The visa category most Nepali travelers apply for is the Single Entry Temporary Visitor Visa, valid for a stay of up to 90 days.

Required Documents:
Before applying, travelers must prepare the following:

  • A valid passport with at least one blank page and a validity of six months or more.

  • A recent passport-sized photograph (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm) taken on a white background.

  • A filled and signed visa application form, available from the VFS Global or Embassy website.

  • Confirmed round-trip flight bookings and hotel or accommodation reservations for the entire stay.

  • A bank statement from the last 3–6 months showing sufficient funds (usually above NPR 3–5 lakhs depending on travel duration).

  • An employment letter, leave approval, or business registration certificate (if self-employed).

  • A travel itinerary listing cities, dates, and daily plans.

  • Additional documents may include relationship certificates if traveling with family or an invitation letter if visiting someone in Japan.

Fees and Processing Time:
The Japan Tourist Visa fee for Nepali citizens is approximately NPR 2,860 for single entry and NPR 5,710 for multiple entry (subject to change based on exchange rates). Payment is made at VFS Global Japan Visa Application Centre in Kathmandu. The processing time usually takes 5 to 7 working days, but applicants are advised to apply at least 15 days before departure to avoid delays. Once approved, the visa sticker is affixed to the passport and must be used within three months of issuance.

Important Notes:

  • Make sure all documents are accurate and consistent, especially travel dates and names.

  • False or incomplete applications can result in delays or rejection.

  • Japan does not currently provide visa-on-arrival for Nepali passport holders, so advance application is mandatory.

  • Applicants can check the latest guidelines at www.vfsglobal.com or seek assistance from a verified travel consultant.

For personalized assistance, Yatra for Fun Pvt. Ltd., a trusted travel and visa service provider based in Kathmandu, Nepal, offers complete support — from document verification and online form submission to appointment booking and tracking updates.
