KATHMANDU — Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued a firm directive requiring all licensed banks, financial institutions, infrastructure development banks, and microfinance companies to process payments for government and local government services solely through the 'Mero Kitta' digital platform. The move marks a significant push toward paperless financial transactions with public offices.

The central bank's Department of Banks and Financial Institutions Regulation issued the directive through an amendment to the Unified Directive 2082, which governs the operations of all licensed financial institutions across the country. The instruction applies broadly — covering Class A, B, and C banks and financial institutions, infrastructure development banks, as well as Class D microfinance institutions.

Under the new rule, any payment related to services obtained from the Survey Department — including land maps, field books, and plot or register printouts — along with fees payable to local government offices must now be settled exclusively through the Mero Kitta system. To comply, institutions are required to register themselves as corporate users on the platform before conducting any such transactions.

The central bank expects this measure to bring greater transparency and efficiency to financial dealings with public offices by anchoring them firmly within a traceable digital framework. Officials believe the shift will reduce cash-based irregularities and streamline how institutions interact with government service counters nationwide.
