With the introduction of the BAIC BJ30e, Lakshmi E Mobility has added another option to Nepal's expanding new-energy vehicle market. The launch also reflects the changing direction of the Nepali automobile sector, where electrification is no longer limited to small city cars but is gradually expanding into premium SUVs and lifestyle vehicles.

KATHMANDU — Lakshmi E Mobility, a subsidiary of Lakshmi Group, has introduced a new premium plug-in hybrid SUV brand in Nepal with the launch of the BAIC BJ30e at the NAIMA Mobility Expo 2026.
The newly launched SUV has entered the Nepali market at an introductory exhibition price of Rs 11.996 million, positioning it in the higher-end hybrid SUV segment where buyers are increasingly looking for vehicles that combine advanced technology with strong road presence.
The company has developed the BJ30e under the concept of a “Born Rugged” SUV, focusing on both urban usability and adventure-oriented driving. According to Lakshmi E Mobility, the vehicle is designed to offer a balance between everyday commuting comfort and off-road capability, allowing drivers to move confidently from city roads to more challenging terrain.
The arrival of the BJ30e comes at a time when Nepal’s automobile market is witnessing growing interest in powerful SUVs, particularly models equipped with hybrid technology. Consumers are increasingly seeking vehicles that provide better efficiency than traditional petrol SUVs while maintaining long-distance travel flexibility.
The BAIC BJ30e features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine combined with a plug-in hybrid system. The all-wheel-drive version displayed at the expo is equipped with a 1.67-kWh battery pack, allowing the vehicle to utilise electric assistance along with its petrol powertrain.
Unlike conventional urban SUVs, the BJ30e follows a more aggressive design philosophy. Its box-shaped body, raised stance, wide dimensions and rugged styling give it a distinctive off-road appearance designed to attract buyers interested in adventure-oriented vehicles.
The SUV's design approach reflects a global trend where manufacturers are combining traditional off-road styling with modern electrified technology. Instead of focusing only on fuel efficiency, manufacturers are now attempting to offer vehicles that provide performance, versatility and lifestyle appeal.
For the Nepali market, this combination could be significant. Nepal's diverse geography, including highways, hilly roads and rural routes, creates demand for vehicles that can handle varying road conditions. However, buyers in this segment also increasingly consider factors such as after-sales service, spare parts availability, maintenance costs and long-term ownership value.
The plug-in hybrid technology of the BJ30e provides an intermediate option for customers who want some benefits of electric mobility but remain concerned about charging infrastructure and long-distance travel limitations associated with fully electric vehicles.
At nearly Rs 12 million, the BJ30e will compete in a premium price category where customers generally expect strong performance, advanced features, safety technology and a high level of refinement.
The vehicle's key attraction is its combination of rugged SUV character and hybrid efficiency. While the design and specifications may appeal to adventure-focused buyers, its market success will depend on how effectively the brand builds consumer confidence in Nepal through service support, reliability and ownership experience.
