50 Candidates Apply for Chairperson Post at Insurance Authority
The application process for the new chairperson of Nepal Insurance Authority has drawn considerable interest. By the close of office hours on the final day of submission, a total of 50 candidates had registered their candidacy for the top post.
The applicant pool is notably diverse, comprising insurance sector experts, serving employees of the authority itself, both current and retired officials of Nepal Rastra Bank, and former chief executive officers of insurance companies. The recommendation committee formed to shortlist names for the position had issued a public notice on Jestha 13, inviting applications from interested candidates.
This round of selection marks a departure from earlier practice. Previously, candidates were required to submit a detailed professional work plan alongside their application, and those making the shortlist had to formally present it before the committee. This time, however, applicants have only been asked to submit a personal details form and a self-declaration, a simpler process that mirrors the format recently adopted for the selection of the chairperson of the securities market regulator — a post that, notably, remains unfilled to this day.
The search for new leadership at the authority was set in motion after the government removed the incumbent chairperson Sharad Ojha from the position.
