KATHMANDU — The Problematic Cooperatives Management Committee has continued its ongoing effort to return savings to small depositors of Shiva Shikhar Cooperative. According to the committee, 56 more affected depositors have recently received their money back, bringing the total number of Shiva Shikhar depositors reimbursed so far to approximately 1,400.

The committee stated that it has adopted a tiered classification method for the refund process. In the first phase, priority was given to depositors with smaller savings amounts, and the remaining depositors will similarly continue to receive refunds in stages, classified according to the size of their deposits.

The government clarified that the funds being returned to depositors are sourced from loan recovery carried out at the cooperative itself. In other words, the money does not come from the state treasury but is generated from the cooperative's own recovered loans and managed assets.

The process of returning savings to depositors from funds recovered through loan recovery and asset management at troubled cooperative institutions continues to operate on an ongoing basis, in accordance with prevailing legal provisions.
