The budget session of the Federal Parliament commences today, with the first meetings of both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly scheduled for 1 PM. The winter session had concluded on April 1, leaving lawmakers idle for three weeks. However, the session has been called earlier than planned due to pressure from ongoing teachers' protests.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to address the parliament on the opening day. Mahesh Bartaula, Chief Whip of CPN (UML), confirmed that PM Oli will speak at the start of the session, sharing his views on current issues.
Teachers, who have been protesting on the streets of Kathmandu for three weeks, are demanding the passage of the School Education Act. To address their concerns, the government advanced the session and decided to prioritize the bill's passage. However, the teachers remain skeptical and have continued their protests.
In today’s session, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel is also scheduled to seek permission to present and table the Alternative Development Finance Mobilization Bill 2081.
The budget session is expected to shed light on the government’s strategy regarding the teachers’ movement, legislative priorities, and other pressing issues.
