Nabil Bank Focuses Lending on Productive Sectors as It Marks 42 Years of Banking Service

Kathmandu — Nabil Bank Limited, one of Nepal’s leading private sector commercial banks, has highlighted its focus on strengthening the real economy through targeted investment as it celebrates its 42nd anniversary.

Operating under the theme “Banking and Beyond,” the bank has expanded beyond traditional banking services by increasing lending in sectors linked to sustainable economic growth, including agriculture, energy, small and medium enterprises, and tourism.

According to the bank’s financial data up to the third quarter of fiscal year 2082/83, Nabil Bank has extended total loans worth Rs 464 billion. A significant portion of this portfolio has been directed toward productive sectors that contribute directly to economic development.

The bank has invested Rs 53.31 billion in agriculture, supporting a sector considered vital for food security and rural economic growth. Similarly, Nabil has provided Rs 51.06 billion in loans to the energy sector, particularly hydropower and related projects, aiming to contribute to Nepal’s energy development and export potential.

Small, cottage, and medium enterprises have also remained a major focus area for the bank. Nabil Bank has extended Rs 45.92 billion in credit to MSMEs, supporting entrepreneurship, employment generation, and local economic activities.

In the tourism sector, the bank has invested Rs 11.10 billion, supporting infrastructure development and business activities in one of Nepal’s key foreign exchange earning industries.

The combined investment in these major productive sectors has exceeded Rs 161 billion, representing a significant share of the bank’s total lending portfolio. The bank believes that such investments can help strengthen economic foundations and create long-term growth opportunities.

Established in 1984 with an initial loan portfolio of only Rs 133 million, Nabil Bank has expanded significantly over four decades. The bank currently serves more than 2.6 million customers through a nationwide network of 264 branches and 315 ATMs, along with digital banking platforms.

The bank, which has received recognition including multiple “Best Taxpayer” awards and annual report awards, has stated that it will continue focusing on responsible banking, financial inclusion, and sustainable development.

Nabil Bank said its future strategy will involve further diversification of investment areas while increasing access to financial services, particularly at the grassroots level, to support Nepal’s broader economic development goals.
