अनुशासित रक्षा र सन्तुलित खेलको बलमा स्पेनले फ्रान्सलाई २–० ले हराउँदै फिफा विश्वकप २०२६ को फाइनलमा प्रवेश गरेको छ। सन् २०१० को उपाधिपछि स्पेन पहिलोपटक विश्वकपको अन्तिम खेलसम्म पुगेको हो।
अमेरिकाको डलास स्टेडियममा मंगलबार राति भएको सेमिफाइनलमा मिकेल ओयारजाबाल र पेड्रो पोरोले एक–एक गोल गरे। अब स्पेनले जुलाई १९ मा न्यूयोर्क–न्युजर्सीस्थित मेटलाइफ स्टेडियममा हुने फाइनलमा इंग्ल्यान्ड र अर्जेन्टिनाबीचको सेमिफाइनल विजेतासँग भिड्नेछ।
यो खेल सुरु हुनुअघि नै दुई फरक शैलीको भिडन्तका रूपमा चर्चित थियो, फ्रान्सको विध्वंसात्मक आक्रमण विरुद्ध स्पेनको बलियो रक्षा। प्रतियोगितामा फ्रान्सले प्रतिद्वन्द्वीविरुद्ध १६ गोल हानेको थियो भने स्पेनले सात खेलमा एउटा मात्र गोल खाएको थियो। मंगलबारको नतिजाले रक्षाले आक्रमणलाई निथ्रुक्कै दबाएको देखायो।
खेलको बनोटले नै फ्रान्सको समस्या उजागर गर्यो। स्पेनले बल कब्जामा राख्दै पासिङ लेन साँघुरो बनाएपछि किलियन एमबाप्पेले खेल्ने ठाउँ नै पाएनन्। काउन्टर आक्रमणमा तेज मानिने एमबाप्पेलाई स्पेनका खेलाडीले घेराबन्दीमा पारेर निष्प्रभावी तुल्याए।
खेलको मोड २२औँ मिनेटमा आयो। १९ वर्ष पूरा गरेको एक दिनपछि मैदान उत्रिएका लामिन यामाल लुकास डिग्नेभन्दा अघि बलमा पुगेपछि पेनाल्टी क्षेत्रभित्र फाउल भयो र स्पेनले पेनाल्टी पायो। ओयारजाबालले सहजै गोल गर्दै अग्रता दिलाए, जुन यो प्रतियोगितामा उनको पाँचौँ गोल थियो।
अग्रता लिएलगत्तै फ्रान्सलाई अर्को झट्का लाग्यो। अनुभवी डिफेन्डर विलियम सालिबा चोटका कारण मैदान बाहिरिनुपर्दा डेसच्याम्प्सले पहिलो हाफमै परिवर्तन गर्न बाध्य भए। यसले फ्रान्सको रक्षापंक्तिको लय बिथोलिदियो।
दोस्रो हाफको ५८औँ मिनेटमा दानी ओल्मोसँग ‘वान–टु’ पास आदानप्रदान गरेका पेड्रो पोरोले बक्सभित्रबाट शक्तिशाली प्रहार गर्दै अग्रता दोब्बर बनाए। डिफेन्डरले यसरी दुई गोलमा योगदान दिनु स्पेनको आक्रमण रक्षापंक्तिसम्म फैलिएको प्रमाण हो।
दुई गोलले पछि परेको फ्रान्सले डेजिरे डुए र रायान चेर्कीलगायतलाई उतार्दै फर्कने प्रयास गर्यो। तर स्पेनको रक्षा टुट्न मानेन। गोलरक्षक उनाइ सिमोनले ‘स्विपर–किपर’को भूमिकामा उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन गरे भने मार्क कुकुरेलाले एमबाप्पेलाई निरन्तर दबाबमा राखे।
तथ्यांकले पनि स्पेनको वर्चस्व पुष्टि गर्छ। फ्रान्सले पूरै खेलमा लक्ष्यमा लक्षित प्रहार निकै कम गर्न सक्यो र ‘एक्स्पेक्टेड गोल’ पनि नगण्य रह्यो। यो हार सम्पूर्ण प्रतियोगितामा फ्रान्सको पहिलो हार हो, जसले लगातार तेस्रो फाइनल खेल्ने उनीहरूको सपना तोडिदियो।

Spain produced a disciplined, composed performance to beat France 2-0 and reach the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. It is Spain's first appearance in a World Cup final since 2010, the year they lifted their only title so far.
At Dallas Stadium on Tuesday night, Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro scored a goal each in the semifinal. Spain will now face the winner of the England–Argentina semifinal in the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New York–New Jersey.
The match had been billed beforehand as a clash of contrasting styles: France's devastating attack against Spain's resilient defense. France had scored 16 goals against their opponents on the way to the semifinal, while Spain had conceded only one goal across their seven matches. Tuesday's result showed defense smothering attack completely.
The shape of the game exposed France's problem early. With Spain keeping possession and choking off passing lanes, Kylian Mbappé found almost no space to operate. Whenever France tried to counter, Spanish defenders swarmed the striker and neutralized him before he could threaten.
The turning point came in the 22nd minute. Lamine Yamal, playing a day after turning 19, reached the ball ahead of Lucas Digne and was fouled inside the box, handing Spain a penalty. Oyarzabal converted with ease for his fifth goal of the tournament.
France were dealt another blow soon after taking the lead. Experienced defender William Saliba had to leave the field injured, forcing Didier Deschamps into a first-half substitution that disrupted the rhythm of France's back line.
In the 58th minute, Porro doubled the lead. Exchanging a slick one-two with Dani Olmo, he drove into the box and finished powerfully into the corner. A defender contributing to both goals underlined how Spain's threat extended all the way from the back.
Two goals down, France sent on the likes of Désiré Doué and Rayan Cherki in an attempt to claw back into the game. But Spain's defense refused to break. Goalkeeper Unai Simón excelled in a sweeper-keeper role, while Marc Cucurella kept Mbappé under constant pressure.
The numbers back up Spain's dominance. France managed very few shots on target across the whole match, and their expected-goals figure was negligible. This is France's first defeat of the entire tournament, ending their bid to reach a third consecutive World Cup final.
Deschamps' side will now play for third place on Saturday. That match still gives Mbappé a chance to add to his tally and strengthen his push for the Adidas Golden Boot. Spain, meanwhile, powered by Yamal's youthful energy and Oyarzabal's rich form, stand just one step away from a second world title.
