Unilever Nepal Limited has reported a decline in net profit despite an increase in operating revenue. The company’s net profit fell by around 19 percent in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2082/83 compared with the same period a year earlier.
According to the company’s unaudited financial statement, net profit stood at Rs 390.8 million during the review period, down from Rs 485.7 million in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
Operating revenue, however, increased by around 9 percent to Rs 2.256 billion from Rs 2.079 billion a year earlier.
The rise in expenses weighed on profitability. Total expenses increased to Rs 1.795 billion from Rs 1.513 billion. The company attributed the higher costs mainly to increases in raw material, packaging and transportation expenses.
With the decline in profit, earnings per share also weakened. Quarterly EPS stood at Rs 474, while annualised EPS was Rs 1,732. Net worth per share stood at Rs 5,533.
The company said its home care business was the major contributor to revenue growth, while beauty and wellbeing and personal care segments also recorded higher sales. However, the inability to fully pass rising production costs on to consumers squeezed profit margins.
Unilever Nepal expects selective price adjustments, tighter cost management, improvements in distribution and the introduction of new products to support profitability in the coming periods.
