Thailand Family Visit Visa Processing Time & Embassy Fee Nepal

For Nepali citizens applying for a Thailand Family Visit Visa (Non-Immigrant “O”), it is important to understand both the processing time and the official visa fee structure before beginning the application. This visa allows close family members—such as spouses, parents, and children—of Thai citizens or foreigners residing in Thailand to visit for family reunions, caregiving, or short-term stays. The Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu handles all family visa applications, both through the traditional appointment system and the online Thailand e-Visa platform (www.thaievisa.go.th).

The processing of a Thailand Family Visit Visa in Nepal generally takes between 5 to 10 working days, depending on the completeness of the documents and the verification process. Once the applicant submits the documents at the Royal Thai Embassy, the initial appointment confirmation is typically sent within 3 working days via email. Applicants are required to submit their documents in person between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM, from Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). For those applying through the e-Visa system, the average processing time is about 7 working days after successful document upload and payment verification.

However, processing may take longer if additional verification is required, especially for relationship proofs, financial statements, or translated documents. Therefore, it is highly recommended that applicants apply at least 10 working days before their intended travel date to ensure that the visa is approved on time. During the review period, the embassy may contact the sponsor in Thailand for verification or request additional documents if necessary.

As of 2025, the Thailand Family Visit Visa (Non-Immigrant “O”) fee for Nepali applicants remains consistent with other non-immigrant visa categories. The single-entry visa fee is approximately THB 2,000, and the multiple-entry visa fee is around THB 5,000. In Nepal, payment must be made through a Manager’s Cheque payable to “The Royal Thai Embassy, Kathmandu”, issued by Global IME Bank. Cash or direct online payment is not accepted. The cheque and visa application documents must be submitted together during the scheduled appointment or embassy visit.

The visa validity is generally 90 days from the date of issuance, and the applicant must enter Thailand within that period. After arrival, a stay extension can be requested from the Thai Immigration Bureau if the sponsor’s visa and residence permit remain valid.
