अमेरिकी पूर्वराष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रम्पले अमेरिकी केन्द्रीय बैंक (फेडरल रिजर्भ) का अध्यक्ष जेरोम पावेलको पुनः राजीनामा माग गरेका छन्। सामाजिक सञ्जाल ट्रुथ सोसलमा ट्रम्पले लेखेका छन्, "धेरै ढिला भयो, उनलाई तुरुन्तै राजीनामा दिनुपर्छ।"

ट्रम्पले आफ्नै पहिलो कार्यकालमा पावेललाई केन्द्रीय बैंकको प्रमुख नियुक्त गरेका थिए, तर ब्याजदर नघटाएको भन्दै निरन्तर उनको आलोचना गर्दै आएका छन्। सन् २०२५ को सुरुमा भने ट्रम्पले पावेललाई बर्खास्त गर्ने योजना नरहेको बताएका थिए। तर पछिल्ला दिनहरूमा उनले आलोचना थप चर्काउँदै राजीनामा माग गर्न थालेका छन्।

ट्रम्प र पावेलबीचको मुख्य मतभेद ब्याजदर घटाउने नीतिलाई लिएर देखिन्छ। ट्रम्पको तर्क छ– ब्याजदर घटाएर आर्थिक गतिविधिलाई प्रवर्द्धन गर्नु पर्छ। तर पावेलले भने ट्रम्पका व्यापारिक नीतिहरू विशेषगरी भन्सार करको असरले अर्थतन्त्रमा अन्योलता बढाएको र यही कारण ब्याजदर घटाउन कठिन भएको बताएका छन्।

मंगलबार पावेलले भनेका थिए, “यदि ट्रम्पका भन्सार नीतिहरूको असर अर्थतन्त्रमा नपरेको भए, फेडरल रिजर्भले पहिले नै ब्याजदर घटाइसकेको हुनेथियो।”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again called for the resignation of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, “It’s too late already — he must resign immediately.”

Trump had appointed Powell as the head of the U.S. central bank during his first term in office. However, their relationship soured after Powell refused to lower interest rates as Trump desired. Though Trump had earlier said in 2025 that he had no plans to fire Powell, his recent statements mark a return to publicly pressuring Powell to step down.

The core disagreement between Trump and Powell centers around interest rate policy. Trump believes the Federal Reserve should cut rates to stimulate economic growth. In contrast, Powell has argued that Trump’s trade policies, particularly tariffs, have created uncertainty in the economy — making it difficult for the Fed to justify rate cuts.

“If it weren’t for the economic impact of Trump’s tariff policies, the central bank would have already cut interest rates,” Powell said on Tuesday.
