Nepal’s pashmina exports rose 5.8% in 2025/26 to Rs. 317.3 million. The growth highlights its resilient luxury appeal, though industry reforms in branding, supply chain, and anti-counterfeit measures are crucial.

Nepal’s pashmina exports increased by 5.8% in FY 2025/26, reaching Rs. 317.3 million, compared to Rs. 300.9 million in the previous year. Despite global economic uncertainties and declining demand in other handicraft segments such as woolen carpets, pashmina has managed to hold its ground as a premium luxury export product.
The modest growth reflects steady demand in niche international markets, especially in Europe, the U.S., and Japan, where consumers value pashmina for its softness, exclusivity, and cultural heritage. Nepal’s “Chyangra Pashmina” brand, supported by geographical indication (GI) certification, continues to play a key role in protecting authenticity and boosting exports.
However, challenges remain. The industry still struggles with limited production capacity, high raw material costs, and counterfeit products in global markets. To ensure sustainable growth, experts recommend stronger international branding campaigns, expanded online retail presence, and better backward integration with Himalayan goat farmers.
