चालु आर्थिक वर्षको छ महिनामा सवा एक खर्बभन्दा बढी सार्वजनिक ऋण थपियो काठमाडौं — चालु आर्थिक वर्षको पहिलो छ महिनामा सरकारको सार्वजनिक ऋण उल्लेख्य रूपमा बढेको छ। सार्वजनिक ऋण व्यवस्थापन कार्यालयको मासिक प्रतिवेदन अनुसार साउनदेखि पुस मसान्तसम्म १ खर्ब ३२ अर्ब ३४ करोड रुपैयाँ सार्वजनिक ऋण थपिएको हो। यस अवधिमा अमेरिकी डलरको तुलनामा नेपाली रुपैयाँ कमजोर बन्दै जाँदा ऋण दायित्व अझै बढेको छ। कार्यालयका अनुसार विनिमय दरको असरले मात्रै पुस मसान्तसम्म ७० अर्ब ६८ करोड रुपैयाँ बराबरको अतिरिक्त ऋण दायित्व थपिएको छ। नेपालले बाह्य ऋणको साँवा भुक्तानी अमेरिकी डलरमा गर्नुपर्ने भएकाले डलर बलियो हुँदा ऋणको भार स्वाभाविक रूपमा बढ्ने गर्छ। राष्ट्र बैंकका अनुसार मंगलबार एक अमेरिकी डलर बराबर १४५.७६ रुपैयाँ पुगेको छ।Public Debt Rises by More Than Rs132 Billion in First Six Months of the Fiscal Year Kathmandu — Nepal’s public debt has increased sharply in the first half of the current fiscal year, reflecting weak revenue performance, rising expenditure pressure, and the impact of a depreciating national currency. According to the latest monthly report of the Public Debt Management Office, public debt rose by Rs132.34 billion between mid-July and mid-January. A major contributor to the rise in debt burden has been the weakening of the Nepali rupee against the US dollar. By mid-January, exchange rate fluctuations alone had added Rs70.68 billion to Nepal’s public debt liability. As Nepal must repay external loan principals in US dollars, a stronger dollar directly increases the country’s debt obligations in rupee terms. Nepal Rastra Bank data show that one US dollar stood at Rs145.76 on Tuesday.
