Achieving sustainable improvement in Nepal's trade balance will require a combination of expanded production capacity, deeper industrialization, targeted export promotion policies, and diversification of both the products Nepal exports and the markets it exports to. Without addressing these structural factors, the trade deficit is likely to continue its upward trajectory regardless of year-on-year fluctuations in either imports or exports.
